NERCA Goes to Washington

Recently, John Ferrante, NERCA’s Director of Government and Industry Affairs was in Washington DC for a legislative conference.  Trips such as this are part of the value delivered by NERCA and our affiliated trade associations because it allows us to relate our needs to lawmakers and to provide a connection between our members and the people who represent them in government.

This visit included educational seminars as well as meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Two of the seminars were led by Congressmen representing states covered by NERCA.  Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ) discussed his bill H.R. 5008 about the misclassification of construction workers which leads to an unfair competitive advantage. And Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA) spoke about the importance of a comprehensive infrastructure bill and the positives that could bring for the construction industry and the wider economy.

Once up on Capitol Hill, Mr. Ferrante and others spoke with legislators on issues concerning the industry as a whole.  They focused on infrastructure funding and renewing tax credits for energy efficiency and solar installation.

Everywhere the delegation went, there were signs of construction, from the Capitol being covered in scaffolding, to the scene below which shows a rooftop courtyard in the House Office Building being redone.
